Newbie

Definition:

Newbie relates to a person who is new to a specific area of Internet activity. Although it can relate to offline activities, it isn't as common. This slang term can be derogatory but more commonly refers to someone willing to learn, and is more descriptive in nature. It is a derivative from the words new baby, or possibly new blood.

Despite being in use for decades, likely since at least the 1960s within the US Military, it wasn't until more recent years than it became mainstream.

Don't confuse newbie with noob, which is almost always derogatory.
